So, a few days ago my dog thought life as HE knew it was over . . . for two days he was babying his front paw and would get real weird every time we touched it. D was able to finally get a good look at it and discovered that somehow he'd split one of his claws pretty badly. So, we took him in. You know, to that place that every dog just hates? The one where, just entering the parking lot creates such anxiety in animals that they begin to shake unbearably - as if you're walking them down the hall to the death chamber! Or is that just MY dog? Because without fail, every time Rudy so much as hears the word, "vet" his blood pressure sky rockets and he about has an anxiety attack! This time was no different.

Although I kind of felt silly taking him to the vet for a broken claw, the vet reassured us that it was the right thing to do since, if his claw had split anymore, he could've had major nerve damage. She then had to cut it back to the quick and, because it was bleeding so badly (and would continue to), she had to bandage him up pretty good.

Now, if you've ever played around w/ an animal and put anything on their paws, you know that they immediately begin to think they're permanently jacked up - like they have a broken leg or something! Which is EXACTLY what Rudy did. Just having that bandage on his paw changed his entire demeanor! My typically happy, always playful puppy suddenly became a 3-legged, depressed and rather pathetic-looking dog!! He limped around for the next 24 hours w/ what looked like a clown shoe (thick plastic bag) over his paw (to keep the snow off of the bandage)! It was about the saddest thing ever!

Poor Rudy! Don't give him such a hard time...remember his trip to E-Vet after you gave him CPR??? He has reason to fear emergency situations...he's had a tough life. =)
Give him a hug for me!
awwwwwwwwwww... poor pooch!! I have seen our dog in more than a few helpless situations... so I feel you and your doggy's pain. :-( Poor thing.
