Life: As I know it: Unforeseen Blessings

Since we flew in and out of Kansas City (to get to Wichita), we had the opportunity to squeeze a little family time in with D's side of the family. We've not yet made it to KC with Micah since he was born so there are a lot of family and friends there who still have not met him - two of the "most important" being his grandpa and great grandpa! We got to see both!

Grandpa Dick has been waiting patiently to see and hold Micah (or as he calls him, "Mitch" - long story . . . don't ask!). So we were all excited to stop by Dan's parents' house for a little "meet and greet," before heading to Wichita. :) Micah had a lot of fun playing with Grandpa Dick. He even let him ride the super cool rocking horse!

Then, on our way back to the airport after a few fun-filled days in Kansas, we made some time for dinner w/ Micah's Great Grandpa Holtzclaw (D's grandpa). He had been pretty sad that he had yet to meet Micah and had been planning to come up to Indy for a visit in April, but had to cancel because of a death in the family. We were stoked to see him and to watch him interact with Micah over dinner. At one point, he even slipped Micah a $50 and told him not to spend it one place - something D said he'd NEVER seen (great) Grandpa do!

We took a few pictures, had a few laughs, and gave a few hugs and then we were off to catch our plane to head home! Little did we know that we'd return a week later for (great) Grandpa's funeral. Just 5 days after our dinner together, (great) Grandpa passed away very unexpectedly. We feel so blessed to have been able to see Grandpa Holtzclaw one last time when we were there, and that he was able to meet Micah. It was only 13 months ago (and a couple days after we announced our pregnancy to her) that Grandma Holtzclaw passed away just as unexpectedly. She was so excited about her new grandbaby that before going into surgery that day, she made sure to tell D's mom where the baby blankets were that she'd made for Micah (years and years before he was ever a thought in our minds!) - we were going to be in the area that week and she wanted us to have them, even though she'd be in the hospital recovering from surgery.

We will always treasure these photos we took the last time we saw Grandpa, and the first time he met his great grandson.
