Micah turned 9 months old last week . . . NINE MONTHS! With every month, I’m amazed that another 30 days has passed and we’re at yet another benchmark in this little man’s life! He’s soaking everything in and learning so much with each passing day.
Some of the things that have marked his 8th month include:

The cutting of his first 2 teeth (both on bottom)! His first poked through on July 10th (I guess, technically, that was in his 7th month?) during our 10 hr. drive down to Tuscaloosa for a wedding. We were so excited, especially since it seemed like he’d been teething for months, with nothing to show for it! The second (a much more painful experience for all of us!) came in about 12 days later. Since the arrival of these two fellas Micah has been introduced to all sorts of yummy goodness like Cheerios, bread, chunks of veggies, and teething biscuits (which he hasn’t yet come to love).

Learning to pick up small objects with his finger and thumb and put them in his mouth. It was a tricky thing to learn, but he’s finally mastered it and is quite proud of himself. We’re waiting to see if he will be right-handed or a “lefty” - it seems like more times than not he prefers his left hand over his right, but he’s quite proficient with both. Perhaps he’ll be ambidextrous . . . how cool would that be?!

Speed crawling and cruising! Although he’s been able to stand and pull himself up on things for a while now, and he started crawling last month, he’s gotten VERY QUICK and has begun cruising around on the sofa and his corral. His favorite thing this month is to have us chase after him and grab one leg while he’s racing away from us on the floor - he giggles and laughs about it every time! He’s also discovered our shelves of DVDs that are at the perfect level for him to pull down and rummage through - another favorite past time of his.
Clapping. This month Micah has been trying to learn to clap, but has yet to really perfect it! When he gets really excited about something he scrunches up his face, smiles really big, and throws his arms up and down, slapping the palm of one hand to the top of the other . . . then looks to us for approval (which involves a “YAYYYY!” and us clapping for him). When I take his little hands and show him the “proper” way to clap, he just watches curiously and then smiles.
His check up with our pediatrician went great until the shots came - but Micah was a trooper and only let it get him down for the next 30 minutes or so. He got a good report from the doctor and we were all a little anxious to hear how he was doing in the height/weight categories! Since his birth, Micah’s been under the average for both height and weight but way above average in regards to the size of his head (our pediatrician assures us that it must be because he’s so smart!) :) We were excited to hear that at his 6 month check up he’d jumped from the 11th percentile to the 32nd percentile for height, even though his head jumped from 70-something to 96% and weight dropped from 46th to 29th%. Ahh, the boy was all across the board! We were certain he’d gotten longer and heavier in the last 3 months, but didn’t know how much.
Here were his stats at 9 months:
18 lbs, 1 oz (2 lbs, exactly, heavier than 6 mos.) - 29th percentile!
26.75 inches long (2.75 inches longer than 6 mos.) - 6th percentile!!
19 cm head - 98th percentile!!
The ped. said she wasn’t at all concerned with his measurements, even head size. She assured us that it’s normal to be all across the boards and especially during the months when they start crawling and walking b/c they’re so active. I felt a little better when she told me her daughter had been in the negatives on the growth chart, but that her head was always up in the high 90’s as well. :)
All in all, we couldn’t be more blessed and excited to have this little guy in our lives. We know that he is absolutely perfect and exactly what and who God created him to be!!He’s nothing but a joy and we thank God every day for allowing us to have the privilege to parent him. What an awesome and scary responsibility!! Happy 9 months, Micah Daniel!! We love you!

Yeah for the big headed people! I am one of them, so are Morgann and Andrew. In fact, when I was a baby, every time my mom took me to the doctor he would measure my head and mumble "abnormally large....abnormally large". It scared my mom half to death! When Morgann was a baby the doctors did a head ct to make sure she didn't have any problems and her doctor told Becky that her diagnosis was "harmless big head" (that is still one of my favorites). All of that to say, Micah is in good company with that head of his (at least in my humble opinion) :-)
oh my gosh. he's growing up too fast!! he looks so different, so grown up! i miss him!!
and i'll start sending those hand-me-downs to Lil Major's BIG cousin before too long. =)
